For my card, I was inspired by a card that Caly Person created for the Crushing Cardstock class at Online Card Classes. I can't show that particular card but it was similar to this one that she designed for Simon Says STAMP.

Here's my card

Caly used dies to cut her strips. I just used my trimmer to cut 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" wide strips from a variety of colors of cardstock. I then weaved the pieces, in no particular order until I could cover an A2 panel. One tip that Caly gave was to use some washi tape to hold the vertical strips in place while you weaved the horizontal strips. I then used a glue pen to add adhesive to the back of the weaved panel and adhered it to a light gray A2 card panel. For the sentiment, I stamped out the "happy birthday" using Clearly Besotted's Many Mini Messages stamp set and Versafine Onyx Black ink on some light gray cardstock. I punched out the sentiment using Stampin' Up's oval punch. To help the sentiment pop, I used Stampin' Up's Decorative Label punch and some white cardstock and adhered it in place.

This was a fun card to put together. I'm not sure when the last time I weaved paper strips was - maybe it was back in kindergarten? That's a few years ago!

Here's the card I created with this sketch as inspiration

I had recently been part of the Scrapbook and Cards Today's Crop and Create Delivered Cardmaking event. In our goodie box, we received Lawn Fawn's Frosties stamp set (came out of retirement) and brand new accompanying die set. I was inspired by one of the cards we created during the event. I used some of the elements and created this card. For the larger panel, I stamped using the three snowflake stamp from LF's Frosties stamp set with Lawn Fawn's peacock ink. I stamped both first and second generations mostly along the edges of a white 3.25" x 4.25" white panel. I then used a blending brush to add some more Lawn Fawn peacock ink along the edges. For the smaller 2.25" x 3.5" panel, I stamped a few of the stamps using both Lawn Fawn peacock and sugarplum inks. I again used a blending brush with this time, the LF sugarplum ink along the edges of the panel. I also stamped a few other snowflakes on a scrap of white cardstock and die cut them. I used a silver gel pen to add a bit of shimmer to the snowflakes. For the sentiment, I used Hero Arts Winter Silhouettes stamp set and LF sugarplum ink. I used my We R Memory Keepers corner chomper to round the edges of the sentiment strip. I then used a blending brush to add some LF sugarplum ink to the edges and attached it to the smaller panel. I adhered everything to a light teal A2 card panel which was then adhered to a white A2 card base to complete the card.

Here's my card

I have a story. I ordered some dies from Kat Scrappiness at the end of May. I had it shipped to my friend's home in Washington State. Shipping from the US to Canada is crazy expensive. I had anticipated being able to travel from Canada to visit her before now. However, the land border only opened for Canadians traveling to the US yesterday. That would not have given me enough time to create something for this blog post. Good thing she's a paper crafter. I asked her to open my package and die cut some things for me in white and in black and mail them to me. Initially, I was going to ask her to send me the dies. Then, it occurred to me that I didn't really need the dies, just die cuts. Being the good friend she is, she die cut several for me and sent them to me. 

For my card, I started with a panel of white cardstock that measured 7.5" x 2.5". I inked it up using Newton's Nook's Waves and Splashes stencil, available at Kat Scrappiness with distress inks (salty ocean, peacock feathers, tumbled glass and mermaid lagoon. For the fish, I used Rubbernecker Stamps' Fish Group stamp set. I stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I added color with Copic markers - E50, G05, G07, V06, V15, Y38, YR16. I then fussy cut the fish. For the sentiment, I used Technique Tuesday's Look Out World, masking the "happy" from the "happy birthday" stamp and Simon Says STAMP's Best Fishes stamp set for the "fishes". I used Kat Scrappiness' Double Stitched Nesting Slimline dies for the black frame. I used a top folding card base, measuring 8.5" x 3.5". I adhered the black frame and then the focal panel to the card base to complete the card.

Happy Little Stampers ~ November Stencil Challenge

Hello Crafty Friends! It's time for a new challenge at Happy Little Stampers ~ Stencil Challenge.

Do you ever buy something that you HAVE TO HAVE? It arrives and I can't remember what I was going to do with it. Of course, it isn't the only thing to arrive and before you know it, it's at the bottom of a pile. Well, I found this Simon Says STAMP Bouquet of Roses stencil buried under all kinds of "stuff". I decided to ink it up in a rainbow order kind of way. I used distress inks applied with an ink blending tool - picked raspberry, mustard seed, mowed lawn, salty ocean. After removing the stencil, I wasn't fond of the stark white areas so I lightly ink blended to mute the white. For the sentiment, I stamped it using My Favorite Things Itty Bitty Basics and Versafine Onyx Black ink. I die cut it with Photoplay Sentiment Strips Etched dies. I adhered the sentiment strip with a bit of adhesive and adhered the entire panel to a white A2 card base to complete the card.

Addicted to CAS ~ Challenge #210

It's my turn to be the host and I chose this challenge's code word. When I chose it (some time ago), I didn't really have an idea in mind or if I did, I don't remember it - LOL! Here's my card

I took a bit of creative license with this card. I turned the circles into birds. What do you think? I punched out the blue circles using 1 1/4", 1 5/8" and 2" circle punches. I also dusted off an old Stampin' Up punch, Two Step Bird punch to punch out the leaves. To add the illusion of depth, I inked up the edges of the circles and wings with Faded Jeans distress ink and an ink blending tool. I used scraps of a deep yellow cardstock to cut small triangles which I turned into beaks for the birds. I found some festive patterned paper and cut more triangles for the party hats. I achieved the rounded edge of the triangles, but die cutting just the bottom edge with a large circle die. I knew that I wouldn't be able to make eyes with a black marker, so I used my Crop-o-dile to punch out the two sizes of black circles, which I used for eyes. I decided to use a light blue for a background and I did use a thin black marker and ruler to draw the legs of the birds. For the sentiment, I used Technique Tuesday's Look Out World stamp set and Versafine Onyx Black ink. I adhered the light blue panel to a white A2 card base to complete the birthday (or bird-day?) card.

Happy Little Stampers ~ Christmas October Challenge

That big day when the big guy wearing the red suit visits children all around the world is quickly approaching. Have you started your Christmas cards? We have a new challenge at Happy Little Stampers ~ Christmas Challenge that might help to get your mojo going.

Here's my card

Quite obviously, I did not do the optional challenge of "make a scene". I had recently received Create A Smile's Furry and Bright stamp set. Isn't that hamster (or guinea pig) cute. I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and added color with Copic markers - B24, BG05, BV13, C5, E02, E25, E33, E50, R05, R22, YG06. I then fussy cut the image out. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink onto a strip of natural cardstock. I trimmed it to 0.75" x 3". I found some scrap Christmas patterned paper and used a 1.75" x 5.5" strip of it for the "ground". I adhered everything to a light blue A2 card panel, which I adhered to a white A2 card base. I added two adhesive rhinestones on the sentiment strip to complete the card.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #445

It's Monday and time for a new challenge at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. Here's the sketch

Here's my card

I love this time of year. The leaves are so pretty and I love the crunch of walking through the fallen leaves. My card is very similar to this week's sketch. For the leaves, I dusted off my Creative Memories leaf punch, which punches both the oak and maple leaves. I used the same scraps of cardstock for the banners. For the sentiment element, I stamped on natural cardstock using Hero Arts Cup O' Joe ink and Simon Says STAMP's Flower Friend stamp set. I trimmed the natural element to 3" x 2.25". I felt that the panel was a bit too bland so I added some leaves using Brutus Monroe's Tree of Kindness stamp set with Hero Arts inks - butter bar, pumpkin pie, raspberry jam, cup o' joe. I found some diagonally striped paper and cut it to 2" x 5.25". I assembled all the pieces on a natural A2 card base to complete the card.
