CAS(E) this Sketch #169

I haven't been posting many cards because I've been packing for a 3-day retreat starting tomorrow around 1pm and I'll probably leave around noon on Sunday (woohoo!) It's about a 2.5 hour drive, if I don't stop to shop! Unlikely!!!

Here's the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch

Here's a card I made using a die-cut using Die-namics Happy Hellos, that I had made some time ago. I'm guessing that I needed the "negative" space for something. I wanted it to pop so I placed it on a scrap piece of blue cardstock. I used a linear embossing folder with white cardstock to complete the card.

a2z Scrapbooking April 2016 Challenge

This month's challenge at a2z Scrapbooking is

Our challenge this month is WATERCOLORING!!

Here's my card

I started with a heavier weight cardstock because I knew that I would be adding some water. I was planning on being a bit stingy with water so decided not to use watercolor paper. I used the largest bloom from Hero Arts - Blossom Art stamp set. I added colour with Zig Clean Color Real brush markers and used water and a brush to "thin" out the colours towards the edges of the petals. I added some Glossy accents to the centre of the flower to add a bit of shine. I hand-drew the stem. The sentiment is from Hero Arts - For Your Kindness stamp set.

One-Layer Simplicity Challenge

The current challenge at One-Layer Simplicity Challenge is

As You Wish April - Whatever you wish to make--as long as it's one layer of card stock--will work for April!

So, here's my story - I made this card for last month's challenge, where the challenge was

Let Green 'March' In

I misplaced the card and then found it too late to enter in March's challenge. Then, I giggled when I saw April's challenge and then thought - why not?

Here's my card

I used a piece of post-it tape near the bottom. I used Technique Tuesday's Wildflowers stamp set for the grass and foliage. I then added a bit more colour with distress ink and an ink blending tool. A simple sentiment from Simon Says STAMP Many Thanks stamp set to complete the card.

CAS(E) this Sketch #168

Here's the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch

Here's my card

I used Jennifer McGuire's faux textured metal paper technique to create the background. I masked off the central area with post-it tape, added peacock feathers distress ink with an ink blending tool. I then removed the post-it tape and then immediately applied perfect pearls with a brush to add a shine to the inked section. I ran the panel with a We R Memory Keepers geometric embossing folder. To complete the card, I used a scrap piece of pink cardstock, added the sentiment from Papertrey Ink's Keep it Simple: Thank you stamp set and added a die cut flower using WPlus9's Flower Doodles die set.

STAMPlorations Flash Stencil Linky Party

There's a party over at STAMPlorations

They want to see cards where stencils are used. I love the STAMPlorations stencils and if you check my blog, I've used the Retro Circles stencil a bit recently.

Here's my card

I used distress inks (spiced marmalade, picked raspberry and twisted citron) applied with daubers to add colour. I felt that I needed to mat the panel to make it pop. The sentiment is from Simon Says STAMP - the Lots of Thanks stamp set.

Freshly Made Sketches & STAMPlorations Flash Stencil Party

I was able to combine two challenges in the creation of this card.

Here is the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches

While over at STAMPlorations, they are having a Flash Stencil Party this weekend.

I was a bit stumped at what to do for this sketch. I then thought about using a stencil to create the main panel of the card and this card emerged. I used STAMPlorations Retro Circles stencil and added distress ink (spiced marmalade, picked raspberry and seedless preserves) randomly with daubers. I cut two thin pieces of cardstock in matching colours. The sentiment is from SSS Many Thanks stamp set.

Muse Card Challenge #161

The current MUSE at Muse Card Challenge is this beautiful card created by Anita Bowden

Here's my card

Anita commented that inlaying the die cut was "fiddly". She wasn't joking. I ended up with lots of little pieces that I kept losing - LOL!

I was inspired by:
  • the colours
  • the randomness of the colours; Anita used two shades of brushos; I couldn't find my Color Bursts, so settled on smooshing of distress inks
  • script sentiment
  • layout - square panel, die cut extends a bit beyond the panel

I started by adding distress inks (spiced marmalade, ripe persimmon and picked raspberry) using a smooshing technique. I die cut using Memory Box - Large Olive Branch both a piece of red cardstock and the inked panel. I used a piece of printer paper, where I added adhesive all over, to gently place all the pieces of the inked panel and the olive branch.

I added a script sentiment from PTI - Heart-2-Heart #3.

It's time for another fun
ONE LAYER CARD
challenge!

The theme for this week's cards is
Geometric Shapes or Patterns

Here's my card

I masked off a 3.25" x 3.25" area. The stencil is by ARTplorations - Retro Circles Stencil. I applied distress inks (mustard seed, spiced marmalade and picked raspberry) with daubers. The sentiment is from Simon Says STAMP Lots of Thanks stamp set.

I was going to cut out the inked square and mat it, to make it pop. Then I remembered that this was to be a one layer card and left the card, as is.

TIME OUT Challenge # 53

This week, there is an "inspired by words" challenge at Time Out Challenges

'A woman is like a tea bag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water' by Eleanor Roosevelt

You can be inspired by just one word or more or go for the whole quote.

Here's my card

I was inspired by the thought of "strong women". I used a stamp from the Unity Stamp set - ... i am woman. To add colour, I used distress inks (spiced marmalade, ripe persimmon, picked raspberry and festive berries). I smooshed some ink on a teflon sheet, spritzed some water and lifted the ink with a ziploc bag and applied it to the card front. I find that I have a bit more control of where the colour goes (or doesn't go). I added three sequins for a bit of sparkle.

Papertrey Ink - Make it Monday #244 - Score Lines

Here's my card for this week's Make it Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink's blog

The challenge is to use score lines.

I used PTI's Spiral Bouquet and Heart-2-Heart #3 stamp sets. The flowers and sentiment are separated by three parallel score lines, adding a bit of texture. It's pretty difficult to photograph the score lines - here's a close-up.
