House of Cards August Challenge

Here's my card. It's my second card as a member of the design team at House of Cards.

It's for the August Word Cue Challenge at House of Cards

I was inspired by this card created by a fellow design team member here at House of Cards, Cornelia

This card can be found at the  STAMPlorations blog

I was mesmerized by her card and she gave step by step instructions. I had never used alcohol inks - yippee something new to try.

I embossed a piece of shiny silver cardstock with this STAMPlorations stencil. I had to add a few shims to get a good impression.

Here's a bit of a close-up of the embossing.

I added a few drops of each colour of alcohol ink from this set. I tried to move the colours around with a piece of fun foam, like Cornelia. It didn't work for me. Instead, I kept adding more drops and moving the paper around to get the inks to blend. The alcohol inks dry quite quickly, so you have to figure things out quickly too. I found that I ended up adding too much ink (there were dark splotches). So, I checked on the internet and found that the application of alcohol blending solution could lighten up those areas and they did. NOTE: do not add the alcohol blending solution into a spritzer. The airborne particles can be quite dangerous to one's respiratory system. Also, the alcohol inks and blending solutions are a bit stinky, so I'd suggest a well-ventilated area. I would also suggest wearing gloves, unless you don't mind having colourful fingers!

I need to figure out how best to photograph "shiny" cards because the card is much shinier in person. I guess you'll have to trust me on that.

I tried taking the picture outside.

The sentiment is this die from Papertrey Ink.

I added a few sequins to complete the card, because everything needs a bit more sparkle - right?
