CAS on Sunday #52 - Chevrons

I love chevrons - I have a chevron embossing folder, chevron border stamps and a Recollections (Michaels) chevron stencil. I thought I'd try to create a card with the stencil. This is what I came up with.

 Theme: Chevrons

This is the stencil; I masked off the area using painters tape (taking a bit of the stickiness off the tape by sticking it a couple of times on my t-shirt)

 I used these distress inks and used daubers to randomly apply the colours

 I used the same distress inks to make this panel - put some ink on my teflon sheet, spritzed water and added the paper and "smooshed" the paper around to blend the inks

 Using these dies - Memory Box, Vivienne dies; cut the "whole" butterfly from the distress ink panel (above) and the "outline" butterfly from black cardstock.

Cut "thanks" using this SImon Says Stamp die from black cardstock.

Assemble the card. I used a thin black mat for the panel and adhered it to the card.

Addicted to CAS Challenge #57

Here's another card - inspired by Addicted to CAS, Challenge #57, Code word: Mask

 


Addicted to CAS

 Used this Recollections mask from Michaels; used painters tape to mask off the area; hint: apply the painters tape to your shirt/jeans to reduce the stickiness of the tape (otherwise, your paper may rip when the tape is removed)

 Used distress inks and daubers to add colour; carefully removed the painters tape

Using black cardstock, cut out the "thanks" and apply over the inked area. I thought that it needed a bit more, so I added three sequins.

CAS-ology Week 134: Monochrome

Well, here's the fourth card, inspired by online sketch challenges completed at my crafters' retreat this weekend.

 

CAS-ology

It's the first time I've been to CAS-ology and posting a card. It looks like a great place to find inspiration. I'll certainly be back.

Here's my card

I used two different embossing folders - the little dots an the wide stripes (yes, I know - not the official names but a bit descriptive, don't you think?)

 Used white grosgrain from Michaels, stamped the "thank you" from this stamp set with Memento Tuxedo black ink, punched it with the SU oval punch and punched the scalloped oval "mat". Assembled the card.

CAS(E) this Sketch # 111

A more colourful card created at this weekend's crafters' retreat, inspired by this week's sketch

I used this stencil. I masked off the area above and below the chevron/triangle strip.

Used these distress inks and daubers to add colour. I repeated the process to get two lines of colour.

I had just received this stamp set from Stampin Up - Lotus Blossom and was anxious to try it out. It's a three step flower stamp - however, I only used the 2nd and 3rd flower stamps and both stem stamps.

I cut out the Lotus blossom with the green blade and cut the Melon Mambo cardstock mat with the blue blade.

 Stamped the "THANK you" from this Simon Says Stamp set with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

 I liked the way this card turned out.

Freshly Made Sketches #174

While at my crafters' retreat this past weekend, I made this submission for this week's sketch
 




Freshly Made Sketches

This card followed the same basic premise as my previous card (see Mojo Monday #385). In retrospect, I should have used the same width of black strips throughout.

For the stamped image, I used a circle template and used Squeezed Lemonade and Mustard Seed Distress Inks, applied with daubers to "create" the sun. I used an image from Technique Tuesday's Wildflowers stamp set, stamped with Memento Tuxedo black in.

Mojo Monday #385

I was fortunate enough to go to a crafters' retreat with some good friends. The funny part is that we rent the upper part of a duplex, stay two nights and it's in our City. It's a great way for us to "get away" and really focus on crafting and friends.

While there, I was able to complete a submission for this sketch.

 Mojo Monday


For those who know me, I am challenged when it comes to non-right angle things - so the diagonal strip was a stretch for me. I was able to "overcome" my challenge by keeping things monochromatic - I simply used a different embossing folder.

 I wasn't able to perfectly match the embossed sections - so I covered my inaccuracies with the 1/4" black strips.

I found some scraps in my bin a short chevron strip and two plain cardstock pieces to complete the card.

A Blog Named Hero - Small Scale Challenge

So .... it appears that I have difficulty with white space. I feel obliged to "fill" the space. This was a good challenge for me to "leave it alone".

The challenge was to "use only a small section of your card, small pieces or small-scaled items".

Here's my card

I used a circle stencil; taped off the adjacent circles because I'm not very precise with my ink placement. I've come to realize that this is much easier using the daubers (rather than an ink blending tool - all a matter of scale).

 Used this black ink and this Technique Tuesday stamp set

 Found a small "Thanks"

This was the panel. I felt it was missing something. So, I matted with black and I'm pretty happy with the finished card.

I had a difficult time with this sketch. I finally settled on an idea to stamp on printed paper.

I used the SU Blooming with Kindness stamp set and stamped with SU Tempting Turquoise. I made a small flag for the sentiment. It didn' have enough "punch" for me, so I inked the edges with a dark brown and added three sequins.

Using this stamp set and these Hero Arts shadow inks; stamp image; trim to 2 3/4' x 3 1/2"; cut 1 1/4" x 5 3/8" strip of patterned paper which coordinates with inks used; cut mat with coordating colour for stamped panel

Use "many thanks" from this stamp set; stamp with same Hero Arts shadow ink (as above)

Adhere pieces.

This card came together quite easily. A nice clean and simple card.

Mojo Monday #384

So, I think that I've found the answer to my crafter's block - online card sketch challenges. At least, lately, I haven't spent hours and lots of scraps of paper trying to figure out what to do - which stamp set, which ink, printed paper or solid colour cardstock. 

 This card is for Mojo Monday #384

Ink up the acrylic block; I used three colours of Distress Ink; spritz with water (I used 5 or 6 spritzes - used a fair bit of water). Apply to cardstock - I used 100 lb cardstock. Permit to dry.

I found that with more water, the colours blended better and the colours were more "diluted".

 I had pre-inked some papers with other distress inks; stamped two types of fish with Memento black ink (oops sorry - no pic); fussy cut the fish

 Found a complementary colour strip of cardstock; cut with a Fiskars border punch.

 I used my Wink of Stella pen to the fish to add a bit of shimmer; wrapped some fibre (with a little bling) around the cut down panel; found some printed paper which complemented the colours of the inked background; stamp the sentiment from the stamp set shown above with Memento black ink; adhered all pieces

Less Is More - Colour Challenge card sketch

Another card - go, me! 

This card is from "Less is More" in celebration of their 4th anniversary. 

Colour Challenge 

and this time they are

PINK AND GREY

Less Is More 

 Select a piece of printed paper with a subtle grey pattern

Select a variety of solid flower stamps of different sizes

 Get out my pink ink pads. Stamp the variety of flowers with the pink ink all over the grey pattern paper. Cut a piece 2 3/4" x 5 1/4". Cut a piece of grey or silver cardstock 1/4" x 5 1/4". Cut a piece of black cardstock 3 1/8" x 5 3/8".

Stamp the THANK YOU sentiment with grey ink

Add some enamel dots (I used the glittery grey in the centre of the light pink, multi-petal flower)

I have always found inspiration in sketches. There are so many online sketch challenges. It's amazing how one can adapt the sketch using one's stash of supplies.

This week's CAS(E) this Sketch #109 is no different.

Looked through my stamps for solid flowers of different sizes

Picked some of my favourite Hero Arts Shadow ink colours

Stamped various flowers in a variety of colours randomly. Cut a strip - 1 1/4" x 5 1/2". Also cut a thin strip - approximately 1/4" x 5 1/2" in a coordinating colour. Obviously, I'll be making a few more of these cards since I have a bit more of the colourful flowers paper.

 Stamped the large two-step flower from this set. Fussy-cut the flower.

 Used the "thank you" sentiment from this set. Stamped with Hero Arts Wet Cement Shadow Ink.

 Assembled the card. Used dimensionals on the flower.
