a2z Scrapbooking - September 29th post

Well it's my turn to be up at a2z Scrapbooking with a new Christmas card. It is, after all, less than 3 months until Christmas.

Here's my card

I ordered the Hero Arts CM181 Bird Words stamp set. I thought it was cute. When it arrived, I couldn't really figure out what to do with it - I liked the messages on the birds. I decided to go with a monochromatic look, with a pop of colour. I chose three birds - noel, merry and hope. Using my MISTI, I stamped the birds using Hero Arts Soft Granite ink, leaving a space for the hope bird, which I stamped with Hero Arts Pale Tomato ink. The one layer card seemed to be missing something. So, I added a thin strip of sparkly silver cardstock to add a bit of sparkle to the card.

The Merry Christmas Challenge #36

It's time for the Holly & Ivy team to post at The Merry Christmas Challenge where the challenge is always

Anything Goes + Christmas

Here's my card for this week

I chose some non-traditional colours for my card. I started by adding colour with distress inks (picked raspberry, cracked pistachio, peacock feathers) with a waterbrush onto watercolour paper. Using Simon Says STAMP Lined Trees die, I cut the watercoloured panel and some silver shimmer cardstock. I liked the look of the trees on black - a bit of drama. The sentiment is from The Ton's Holiday Flourish stamp set, heat embossed with silver embossing powder.

I fussy cut the flowers. I found some scraps of a dark printed paper and dark gray on which I stamped the sentiment using Hero  Arts Color Layering Bouquet stamp set.

Here's my first card

I used the Typografia IN FAITH Delight in the Lord stamp. Using my MISTI, to ensure a good impression, I stamped on my main panel with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I also stamped on some scraps of pink and red cardstock. I used some heart dies to cut hearts from the coloured and stamped cardstock, making sure that the areas where the hearts were die cut, did not overlap. I then adhered them to the "correct" place, difectly overlapping the white panel. I matted the panel on red cardstock.

Here's my second card

I used Typografia IN FAITH's All Things Through Christ. I started by heat embossing using silver embossing powder. With a water brush, I added colour using distress inks (mustard seed, spiced marmalade, picked raspberry, peacock feathers). I matted the panel on yellow cardstock and added some sequins for a bit of sparkle.

The Merry Christmas Challenge #34

So excited to share my news, I'm now a member of The Merry Christmas Challenge design team. WOOHOO for me! There's a bit of pressure to create Christmas cards, every other week. However, I know that I'll end up with a nice collection of Christmas cards, by Christmas.

The challenges are "Anything Goes + Christmas".  We'd love for you to join us.

Here's my card

I used The Ton's Holiday Flourish with Hero Arts Field Greens and Pale Tomato ink. For the smaller "berries", I used Catherine Pooler's Candy Cane Lane. For the sentiment, I cut a strip of vellum and die cut, using shiny gold cardstock and Simon Says STAMP Deco Tree die for the sentiment. Here's a close-up.

To adhere the vellum to my card, I hid glue dots under the small faux pearls.

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #229

I'm back with a card for the new challenge at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge. Here's the sketch

No automatic alt text available.

Here's my card

I flipped the sketch a couple of ways. I masked a 2" circle. I added distress inks (mustard seed, spiced marmalade, chipped sapphire) in ink blending tools to mimic a sunrise sky. I added the bulrushes from Technique Tuesdays' Growing Wild stamp set and the dragonfly from Technique Tuesdays' Wildflowers stamp set. I matted the focal panel with black. The sentiment is from TT's Wildflowers stamp set and is stamped on a scrap of the vertical strip used. I found some printed paper that I felt worked with the focal panel.

We'd love to see what you can create starting with our sketch #229.

Simon Says STAMP Wednesday Challenge

Just back from a relaxing extra long weekend visiting with my friend in Lynnwood, WA. I made this card while we were crafting for the challenge at Simon Says STAMP Wednesday Challenge

This week the challenge is
Anything Goes
This week we are showcasing Hero Arts Products. You don’t have to use them for the challenge but if you have them we would love to see them used.

Here's my card

I started by using some post-it tape to mask a strip 1.25" from the bottom of the panel. Then, I grabbed my Hero Arts Color Layering Graphic Flowers and a collection of my Hero Arts inks. I carefully removed the post-it tape. I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set and with a ruler and fine black marker, drew the two horizontal black lines. I matted the card panel on black.

Muse Challenge #231

Away for the long weekend, visiting a friend and I couldn't resist not playing along with Muse this week after seeing this beautiful card by Cat Craig

I was inspired by

  • the beautiful spray of flowers
  • the colours
  • the general sketch
  • the scripty sentiment in black

Here's my card

I chose to start with STAMPlorations Blossom Sprays #1 which I colored using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and a water brush. I'm away from home so I needed to use the closest colours to Cat's card that I had with me. The sentiment is Simon Says STAMP Thanks die (which I borrowed from my friend). I didn't have any fun foam, so used "plain" black cardstock.

a2z Scrapbooking - September 14th post

I'm up at a2z Scrapbooking today with a new card. It's a Christmas card because it will be here before I know it. Hero Arts has some great new Christmas-inspired stamp sets. I'm using one of the new releases.

Here's my card

I went for a non-traditional Christmas colour. I remember my Auntie's home where she had a pink Christmas tree back in the 70s. I think that she was ahead of her time - they seem quite trendy now.

I stamped the trees from Hero Arts CM179 Winter Silhouettes with Hero Arts bubble gum ink. For the silhouettes, I stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I used silver embossing powder for the sentiment from the same stamp set.

We'd love for you to join us for the current challenge at a2z Scrapbooking where it's
All you have to do, is CASE an a2z Scrapbooking designer and use a Hero Arts product as the focal point. If you're looking for Hero Arts products, check out a2z Scrapbooking etsy store. When your cart reaches $25, use my code Sue15 for 15% off your purchase.

Christmas Card Throwdown August - Technique Challenge

Cutting it pretty close as the current challenge at Christmas Card Throwdown closes in less than 2 hours.

Here's my card

I used Unity Stamps Ornamental Season, Versamark and WOW! Rose Gold embossing powder. The ornaments were coloured in using Frixion gel pens. Obviously, not using traditional Christmas colours, I was going for a bright and fun look. The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

House of Cards - September Challenge

September? How is that possible? Well, it is September 1st so that means that it's time for a new challenge at House of Cards. This month's challenge is

SEPTEMBER 2017
Add text and/or Colors

Here's my card

I started with STAMPlorations Trendy Leaves stamp set. I chose the leaf with the text on it - to adhere with the challenge of add text. I grabbed my inks that most closely matched the colours of the challenge (Hero Arts Soft Brown, Distress inks - Antique Linen, Rusty Hinge, Tea Dye, Aged Mahogany). I inked each leaf with two different colours, making good use of my MISTI. The sentiment is from Simon Says STAMP Big Scripty Greetings. I found some printed paper that coordinated with the colours and matted the main card panel.
